The founder, president and chief executive officer of Far West banks, Edward V. Blanchard, 48, died of cancer Saturday at his home in Woodland Hills, Utah County.

Blanchard was bishop of the Brigham Young University 104th Ward, and was heavily involved in coaching youth basketball and baseball. He served many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including high councilor and as a missionary in Brazil from 1960-62.He was born Dec. 11, 1939, in Murray to Joseph Vern and Edna Andrea Gunderson Blanchard. He married Georgia Gibb on June 12, 1968, in Cardston, Alberta, Canada.

The funeral is scheduled Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. in the Salem Stake Center, 470 E. Canal Road. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. or Tuesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Salem City Cemetery.
