A sniper killed a suspected Mafia member as he strolled in a prison yard, police reported. The victim was to have appeared before a judge to answer questions about a mob war in the region.
Pasquale Rocco Libri, 26, died after receiving a single shot in the face on Sunday, police said. The sniper apparently was hiding in a partially constructed building near the prison, police said, and escaped in a car.Libri was in jail on charges of attempted homicide and membership in the 'ndrangheta, a local version of the Mafia, according to authorities. His father and uncle reportedly head a 'ndrangheta clan.
