The average price of an existing home in Los Angeles County in the year 2000 will be $476,794, up nearly 148 percent from this year's expected average price, a UCLA study predicted.

The survey by the UCLA Business Forecasting Project predicted the average price of a home in the county at year's end will be $192,386, 21 percent higher than 1987's average price.In July, the median home price was $188,210, said Roger Cruzen, spokesman for the California Association of Realtors. The median price is the midpoint on the list of all home prices.

The statewide average home price is predicted to be $471,000 by the year 2000, according to the findings released Thursday in UCLA's latest quarterly business forecast for California.
