Two Utah elementary schools received the Reagan administration's "Excellence in Education" awards this week in ceremonies attended by President Reagan.

Bonneville Elementary School in Salt Lake City and J.A. Taylor Elementary School in Centerville received the coveted Excellence flags.Principal Shauna Carl accepted the award for Bonneville Elementary. She was accompanied by Barbara Naanes, a first-grade teacher, and Connie Fullmer, school secretary.

Jean Madsen, principal of J.A. Taylor Elementary, received the flag for her school. She was accompanied by Wendy Beesley and student body president Jon Cook.

The two school groups toured the Capitol Thursday and described their schools' programs to Utah's two senators, Orrin Hatch and Jake Garn.

Secretary of Education William Bennett also spoke to representatives of the award-winning schools from all 50 states in ceremonies at the Marriott Hotel.

Madsen said the group felt highly honored by the awards.
