Defending champion Mike Malaska captured the Utah Section PGA Championship Wednesday at the Toana Vista Golf Course by one stroke over Jimmy Blair.

The assistant pro at Hidden Valley Country Club sank a 4-foot birdie putt on the final hole after Blair had missed from 12 feet. Malaska finished with a 72 for a 213 total. The victory earned Malaska $2,500, while Blair settled for $2,000. Malaska and Blair also earned spots in next month's National Club Pro Championships at Pinehurst, N.C. along with Bob Betley and Kim Thompson, who tied for third at 218.Henry White and Jeff Green, who are pros at Stansbury Park, tied for fifth at 219. Brad Stone was another stroke back at 220, while host pro Milan Swilor came in at 224 along with Lynn Landgren.

Lanny Nielsen was the senior winner at 237.
