Nestor Giovannini of Argentina retained his WBC Junior Lightweight world boxing title late Wednesday by winning a 12-round decision over Zaire-born naturalized Italian Mwhu Beya.

The Argentinian, in his first defense of the world title he won four months ago from Italian Noe Cruciani in Spoleto, Italy, attacked from the opening round and it was not until the fifth that Beya started landing some telling lefts.Of the three umpires, one judged the fighters equal with 116 points each.

But an Argentine umpire awarded the bout to Giovannini by 116 to 113 and an Italian umpire made it 118-114.
