Utah artists are invited to submit entries Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 for the 16th annual Deseret News Art Show. The show will be free to the public Oct. 6-24 in the ZCMI Center.
The annual show has featured some of the finest paintings, graphics and drawings by Utah artists. More than 260 entries are received each year, with approximately 75 juried into the exhibit.Artists may submit up to two entries on any subject matter. All styles and approaches are invited, without emphasis on any particular medium, show officials said. All work must be original and completed within the past two years. A $3 entry fee, non-refundable, will be charged for each entry to cover cost of handling and hanging entries.
Photographs, or work other than two-dimensional, such as woodwork, sculpture or ceramics, will not be accepted. Copy work or work produced under supervision, such as in an art class, also is not eligible.
A list of artists whose work is accepted will be made available to the public. In past years, many of the works have been purchased through arrangements directly with the artists.
Six entries will receive merit awards and one of the six will receive the purchase award. The winning entry will become a part of the newspaper's corporate art collection.
Show officials said winning entries will be reproduced in color in the Oct. 9 Deseret News Sunday edition.
