A Bountiful man who pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a 5-year-old boy and admitted to abusing two elderly women was sentenced to prison by a 2nd District Court judge Tuesday.

Lloyd Garcia, 42, 267 W. Center St., pleaded guilty to first-degree and second-degree felony charges in 2nd District Court in a plea negotiation with the Davis County attorney's office. After pleading guilty, Garcia waived a pre-sentence report by Adult Probation and Parole, telling Judge Douglas L Cornaby he knew he would go to prison and would just as soon get his time started.

The judge gave him a five-year-to-life term on the attempted sodomy of a child charge, and 1 to 15 years on a burglary charge. The sentences are to run concurrently.

Garcia admitted to sodomizing the boy in his home this year and to a July 9 incident in Bountiful where he attacked a 90-year-old woman in her yard, sexually molesting her after forcing her into her home.

Prosecutor Carvel Harward said during interviews that Garcia also admitted sexually molesting an elderly woman in the nursing home where he worked.

Garcia was originally charged with sodomy upon a child, a first-degree felony that carries a mandatory prison term of 5, 10 or 15 years; aggravated sexual assault, also a first-degree felony; and burglary, a second-degree felony.

In a plea negotiation with the attorney's office, Garcia pleaded guilty to attempted sodomy upon a child, which is still a first-degree felony with a 5-year-to-life prison term, but without the minimum mandatory term and the burglary charge.

In return, the aggravated sexual assault charge was dropped, no charges were filed on the second instance of sexual abuse of the nursing home resident, and charges of being a habitual criminal were also not filed, Harward said.

Garcia acknowledged in court that he has served two prison terms on prior convictions for aggravated assault.
