Israeli soldiers killed three Palestinian gunmen Friday in the Israeli-declared "security zone" in southern Lebanon and wounded two Arabs in clashes with protesters in the occupied West Bank, army and Palestinian sources said.

Seeking to avert violence on the sixth anniversary of the massacre of Palestinians in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps during Israel's 1982 invasion of Lebanon, the army clamped curfews on six camps in the Gaza Strip, confining about 160,000 residents to their homes. In southern Lebanon, Israeli soldiers on patrol early Friday discovered three Palestinian gunmen near the northern slopes of Mount Dov in the eastern section of the "security zone," an army spokesman said.

The spokesman said soldiers opened fire and killed all three Palestinians.

There were no casualties among the Israeli soldiers.
