U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon John Kelly was airlifted to Cyprus Friday for treatment of a heart problem related to stress and exhaustion, a U.S. Embassy spokeswoman said.
Kelly, 49, was reported in stable condition, and State Department spokesman Charles Redman said in Washington the prognosis was good."Ambassador Kelly had to leave Lebanon for medical reasons, because his condition required immediate hospitalization in Cyprus," the embassy spokeswoman said in Beirut. She said Kelly had "suffered heart problems due to pressure and exhaustion" but did not elaborate.
