Iran and Iraq have proposed new but unspecified dates for further talks to end the Persian Gulf war, and U.N. mediator Jan Eliasson hopes they will respond to last-min-ute objections raised by Baghdad, a U.N. spokeswoman said Wednesday. She said the mediator, Swedish diplomat Jan Eliasson, left Geneva for New York Wednesday after telephone contacts with U.N. Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar and further talks with the two sides shortly before his departure.
