The City Council has postponed making a decision on a settlement offer from the Admiral Insurance Co. for damages to city property that occurred when the Murdock Canal broke last May.

Mayor Kenneth D. McMillan said the city received a letter from the General Adjustment Bureau for Admiral Insurance, the insurance company for the Provo River Water Users Association, raising an original settlement offer from $67,000 to $75,000.The letter said the city had originally estimated damages at $270,192.50 but had lowered that figure to $136,097.07 after reviewing actual damages. Lindon had filed a claim with Admiral asking for $130,000 for damages.

Some members of the council said they did not think the city should settle for any less than they spent in repairs and cleanup caused by the canal failure.
