Four people remained hospitalized Monday, one in critical condition, following a Sunday night accident at about 6200 S. Wasatch Boulevard.
The accident occurred about 8:50 p.m. when a car driven by Karla Buchanan was struck broadside by a car driven by John Cvarnomski.A Salt Lake County sheriff's office spokesman said Buchanan, 16, 3246 McNeil, Sandy, was traveling southbound on Wasatch Boulevard when she swerved to the right to avoid a large rock in the road. Buchanan lost control of the vehicle, which then crossed back across Wasatch and was struck by the northbound Cvarnomski vehicle.
A passenger in the Cvarnomski vehicle, Margaret Downen, 51, 4325 Spruce Circle, Salt Lake City, was in critical condition Monday at University Hospital. Her husband, John, 58, also a passenger in the car, was in serious condition at LDS Hospital. The younger John Cvarnomski, 36, Staten Island, New York, was in serious condition at Cottonwood Hospital.
Buchanan, who was alone in her car, was in fair condition at Alta View Hospital.
