An Arcola, La., oil well exploded in flames early Thursday, killing at least one person and seriously burning several others, the sheriff's office said. The identity of the well's owner was not immediately available. Chuck Reed, a Tangipahoa Parish deputy, said the person killed may have been a teenager who had been riding a motorcycle near the well. The fire was believed to have been brought under control before noon, Reed said. Cindy Roberts, who owns a convenience store and a home near the well, said, "I could only see black smoke. I didn't want to go back there." Tracie Ballard said the ground shook at her service station about 10 miles from the blast.
