One boy was killed and another injured when the four-wheel recreational vehicle they were riding slid off the road into a tree.

Gary D. Carter, 14, Spring City, was killed as he drove around a turn on a dirt road about one mile east of Spring City, according to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Roger Cutler.Carter's companion, Brandon Vincent, 14, also of Spring City, was transported to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, where he was in stable condition Saturday, according to a nursing supervisor.

The two were riding a Suzuki 250 Quadrunner west on Substation Road when they hit the tree near Ninth North. The boys were thrown from the vehicle and, after an undetermined amount of time, were discovered by a passer-by about 6:49 p.m.

Neither was wearing a helmet, Cutler said.
