Kitty Burton, the Utah Libertarian gubernatorial candidate, has named a Midvale health-food shop owner as her lieutenant governor running mate.
Stanley D. Malstrom, 64, was chosen for the ticket "basically because he has a very Libertarian attitude, is a good administrator and a good speaker," Burton said. "He's meticulous in what he does and he is a good friend."There had been some legal question about Burton naming a running mate this late in the campaign, but the lieutenant governor's office con-cluded last week she could name a running mate this late and still fall within the law.
Burton was the only Libertarian to file for the governor's race this spring. However, delegates failed to confirm a lieutenant governor partner for her during their June state convention.
Utah Libertarian Party officials have chosen to endorse independent Mer-rill Cook for governor rather than Burton.
