Whitney Houston added $500,000 to the Red Cross Gulf Crisis Fund by donating the proceeds from her recording of "The Star-Spangled Banner." Now she has been added to the American Red Cross Board of Governors.

Houston, who was named to the board Wednesday, was "a major force in the Red Cross Gulf Crisis Campaign," said Red Cross President Elizabeth Dole. The crisis fund so far has raised more than $21 million to support troops in the Persian Gulf, their families and the Red Cross' international relief activities for civilian war victims.
