It's been quite a week for the Bountiful High senior Brandon Stock. On Saturday, Stock won two individual and one relay team championship at the state 3A track and field finals, and on Tuesday, he scored three times to help the Braves to a 5-1 victory over Judge in quarterfinal action of the state 3A soccer championships.
In other quarterfinals on Tuesday, Woods Cross earned a hard fought 1-0 victory over defending state champion Jordan, thus eliminating the Beetdiggers; Ben Lomand moved on with a 4-3 win over Logan, and Skyview dropped Murray 5-1.Stock scored first just eight minutes into the half, Sean Colton gave the Braves a 2-1 lead with 11 minutes left in the game, and Stock made it 3-1 with about six minutes left. Jason Haslam and Stock each added additional goals in the final five minutes, as Bountiful keeper John Barlow was backed by solid defense from his teammates.
Ben Lomand 4, Logan 3
The Scots received two goals from Chad Adcox, including the winner midway through th final half, as the Scots advanced. Tyler Kunzler and Anthony Gallegos also scored first half goals for Ben Lomand.
Woods Cross 1, Jordan 0
The defending champs and the tournament favorite met in a quarterfinal defensive struggle, one that figured to be decided by either a great play or a mistake.
With just under 15 minutes left, Woods Cross' forward Corby Egan came in from the left side and knocked Jordan keeper Brandon Sargent out of the net. Egan then lofted a left footed shot into the back right corner for the game's only score.
Skyview 5, Murray 1
The Bobcats had little trouble with Murray, taking a 2-0 halftime lead and icing the win with a pair of goals in the final two minutes of the game.
