Deputy sheriffs arrested two Salt Lake teenagers Friday after they allegedly stole a casket wreath from a grave, planning to give the red roses to their prom dates.

The duo drove into Wasatch Lawn Cemetery, 3401 S. Highland, about 4 p.m. and walked to a grave where an individual had been buried two days earlier. Deputies said one of the boys picked up the wreath, ran to the car and threw it in the vehicle's trunk. Both boys told deputies they "did not think there would be anything wrong with stealing the wreath off a grave and they took it because it was prom night and they were going to give the flowers to their girlfriends," a report said.

Deputies released the pair to the father of one of the boys and referred them to juvenile court.
