Laurie Snow Turner, press secretary to Sen. Jake Garn, R-Utah, is leaving next month to begin her own public relations consulting firm, Garn announced Tuesday.
Mary Jane Collipriest, who has been the assistant press secretary, is being promoted to take Turner's position.Turner has been Garn's communications director for five years, and was his assistant press secretary for three years before that. She also was communications director for President Bush's inauguration, and worked for the Education Department and for former Rep. Dave Monson, R-Utah.
Collipriest, a University of Utah alumnus, is a native of Salt Lake City. She has worked for Garn four years, and has been assistant press secretary since 1988.
Garn said he appreciates Snow's "loyalty and professional abilities" and said he was happy to promote Colipriest and has "complete confidence in her capabilities. She has proven herself to be a talented communications professional."
