Felony criminal mischief charges have been filed against two Sevier County juveniles and a 19-year-old companion who are accused of tossing large boulders from an I-70 overpass onto two semi-trailer trucks traveling on the interstate below.

Jared C. Parks, Monroe, Sevier County, was released from custody after he appeared in 6th Circuit Court, where the case has been continued. The juveniles were referred to 6th District Juvenile Court. The incident resulted in several thousand dollars damage to the trucks, which were traveling on I-70 in southern Sevier County.

The boulders - some weighing more than 50 pounds - were dropped about 10:30 p.m. February 26, law enforcement officers said.

Windshields were broken and other damage occurred, but the drivers of the trucks were not injured, authorities said.

The incident prompted the filing of felony charges because of the amount of damage to the two vehicles, said Paul Lyman, assistant Sevier County attorney. Such charges may be filed if mischief damages exceed $3,000.
