A former bodyguard for Mexican drug traffickers drew life plus 10 years in prison for his role in the kidnapping and slaying of U.S. drug agent Enrique Camarena.

U.S. District Judge Edward Rafeedie imposed the sentence Tuesday on Juan Jose Bernabe Ramirez, 32, in the 1985 killing of Camarena and his pilot - slayings that deeply strained relations between the United States and Mexico.Members of a cocaine cartel ordered Camarena's slaying in retaliation for his successful drug-fighting efforts, prosecutors said.
