Many years ago I went to school with a Jeannie Verhagen. I'm certain she was Jean Hagen, who played Danny Thomas' TV wife. Whatever happened to Jean Hagen? - K.C., Cassopolis, Mich.

Stats: Born Aug. 3, 1923, in Chicago, as Jean Shirley Verhagen. Graduated from Northwestern University. Married once, two children.Early years: Hagen put herself through college doing radio drama in Chicago. She made her Broadway theater bow in 1945 in "Swan Song." She did "Another Part of the Forest," "Ghosts" and "The Traitor" on Broadway before MGM put her under contract. She made her movie bow in "Adam's Rib" in 1949. Among her other movies: "Asphalt Jungle," "Sunrise at Campobello."

Famous for: She was the nasty silent star in "Singin' in the Rain" in 1952 and was nominated for an Oscar. From 1953 to 1956, she was Danny Thomas' wife in the TV series "Make Room for Daddy." She had Emmy nominations in 1954 and 1955.

In recent years: Hagen did TV dramatic roles for several years, but her career was cut short by serious illness. She had one final role in the TV movie "Alexander: The Other Side of Dawn" in 1977, the year she died of throat cancer.
