Joseph "Hal" Mendenhall, age 67, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died May 16, 1991 at home after a short illness with cancer.

He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, July 5, 1923, son of Joseph Mendenhall and Estenna Fern Wakefield Mendenhall. He married Doris Lynn Arnold August 8, 1945; marriage later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. He was a World War II veteran. Active member of the LDS Church. Attended SLC elementary schools and North Emery High School. He worked for Salt Lake City lines and 30 years for Amoco Oil Co. After he retired from Amoco, he worked for Granite School District, driving bus. He will be most remembered for his love and willingness to do anything for his family. He loved sports and loved watching his boys play sports. He spent many hours at the ballpark. His blood ran "true blue," (BYU). He is dearly loved and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.Survived by his sweet wife, Doris of Taylorsville; children and their spouses, Dayle and Jan, Riverside, Calif.; Ron and Nancy, St. George; Hugh and Yvonne, Phoenix, Ariz.; Doug and Dianne, Taylorsville; Guy and Lori, Salt Lake City; 23 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tom and Jessie White, Midvale; Carol Arnold, Price; Lamont and Mary Arnold, Price. Preceded in death by parents and baby son.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 20, 1991, 11 a.m., in the Taylorsville 8th Ward Chapel, 1495 West Tamarack Road (4565 So.). Friends may call Sunday, 6-8 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 South Redwood Road, and Monday, one hour prior to services at the church. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates.
