A West Valley woman was in serious but stable condition early Tuesday in University Hospital after being injured by a pipe that fell from a drilling truck and pierced her car's windshield Monday afternoon.

Danette Uncles, 30, was eastbound on I-80 when the 55-pound, 12-inch pipe broke loose from the truck, bounced off the road, went through her vehicle's windshield, hit the steering wheel and her head before coming to rest in the back seat. Uncles was flown by medical helicopter to the hospital where she is being treated for a skull fracture, a nursing supervisor said.Traffic was halted for several minutes while the helicopter landed and emergency personnel treated the woman. The drilling truck is owned by Pool Drilling, Vernal. No citations had been issued by late Monday evening by Utah Highway Patrol in the accident, which occurred about 3:45 p.m. near 900 East.
