A Salt Lake man died Friday night when a car leading police on a chase collided with his car at the intersection of 2100 South and 1100 East.
Killed in the accident was:James A. Pratt, 36, no address available.
Officers attempted to stop a car for a traffic violation near 900 S. State about 11:50 p.m., Sgt. Scott Atkinson said. The car initially pulled to the curb, then moved slowly along the curb before pulling out at a high rate of speed.
The car sped to Foothill Boulevard, then south along 2100 East to 2100 South and finally turned west on 2100 South. Along the way, officers tried to clear intersections by radioing ahead to other officers.
But at the intersection of 2100 South and 1100 East, the fleeing car, which police said traveled at speeds higher than 70 mph, struck Pratt's southbound car. A passenger in that vehicle was also injured. Police have yet to release the passenger's name.
The driver of the car involved in the chase, Soshia Langi, 18, was booked into the Salt Lake County jail for investigation of criminal homicide and felony fleeing. One of three passengers in Langi's car was critically injured, but at press time police hadn't released the person's name.
