Police are asking citizens to help them apprehend a bank robbery suspect.

South Salt Lake Police Sgt. Mark Ferraro said a man entered First Interstate Bank at 39 W. 2100 South at 4:30 p.m. Friday. After brandishing a handgun, he demanded money from the tellers.Bank employees handed him a bag of money after inserting a dye pack. The pack was designed to explode minutes after the robber received it. Witnesses said the man stuffed the money down the front of his pants and fled south on foot.

Ferraro said the man could be suffering severe burns on his lower abdomen from the dye and should have red dye on the clothes he was wearing.

The man was described as between 5'3" and 5'5" inches tall, 140 to 170 lbs., 18 to 23 years old, with short curly brown hair. He was wearing a blue plaid flannel shirt, denim blue jeans and dark glasses.
