Police investigators will meet with prosecutors on Tuesday to discuss evidence in an attempted robbery of a Colorado couple who traveled to Salt Lake City to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary.
Steve Robertson, 27, and his wife, Shelly, 24, of Grand Junction, Colo., reported three men tried to force their way into a Midvale motel room where the couple was staying Friday night. The couple told police they had seen three men loitering in the parking lot of the Discovery Motel, 380 W. 7200 South. When someone knocked on the couple's motel room door a few minutes later, Shelly Robertson opened the door a crack while Steve Robertson stood back with a high-caliber handgun.
They said the men forced open the door, and Robertson fired twice, fatally wounding George O'Dell, 23, of Sandy, and wounding Theodore Clay, 20, of Sandy. A third man, O'Dell's brother, William, was not hit. The three men left in a car driven by an unidentified woman, who drove them to LDS Hospital, where George O'Dell was pronounced dead. Clay was released from the hospital Sunday morning.
Midvale Police Capt. Dan Pearson said investigators will meet with the Salt Lake County attorney's office on Tuesday to review evidence in the case and how it relates to Clay, William O'Dell and the woman.
Pearson said he does not anticipate any charges against the Robertsons.
