A Timpview High School student has been named a 1991 U.S. Presidential Scholar, the nation's highest honor bestowed on graduating high school seniors.
Nephi D. Allred, 17, is one of 141 students across the country to win the award. He is the son of David and Janice Allred, Provo.Selection is based on outstanding accomplishments in academics, leadership, scholastic and community involvement, arts, sciences and other fields of interest. Members of the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars, with the concurrence of President Bush, choose the award recipients.
After high school graduation, Allred plans to attend Brigham Young University to study molecular biology or physics. He plays the trombone in Timpview's jazz band.
On Tuesday, the Provo City Council will honor Allred at a council meeting.
