The Alpine School District has received $273,000 in federal Chapter 2 funds to use during the 1988-89 school year.

The federal grant is distributed to local school districts on an annual basis to help support ongoing educational programs.Victoria Anderson, a district administrator, said the funds will be used locally for media improvement, curriculum and instruction support, district testing and evaluation efforts and activities for gifted and talented children.

The money cannot be used to supplant a program, but only as support for existing programs.
