Even since she was a kid, Lupita Jones had reason to believe she would be Mexico's first Miss Universe. Her dad said so. On her birth, her father told relatives and friends his prediction, she said. "I can't wait to see Dad and tell him, `Dad, your words were true,' " said Jones, a 23-year-old lawyer from Mexicali. She beat out Miss Netherlands, Paulien Huizinga, 20, and Miss USSR, Yulia Lemigova, 18, to walk away with the beauty pageant crown Friday night in Las Vegas. Miss USA Kelli McCarty, 21, was among the top 10 finishers. Jones said she was asked by the judges how she would know when she was successful. Most people know that when they're happy, she said. "When you smile, when you give a hand to someone who needs it, I think you are successful," she said.
