The Van Horn is a cozy two-story contemporary home with a country flavor.

While both the entryway and living room are vaulted to the second floor, the living room ceiling seems even higher because the room is two steps lower than the foyer. Stairs on the left lead to a balcony at the second floor landing, which overlooks the living room - a fine vantage point for checking out activities below. The rest of the group living area, which includes a large family kitchen, family room, dining nook, is at the same level as the living room but without vaulted ceilings. A utility room is also on this level, tucked behind a handy half-bath.

Additional counter space and an eating bar are created by placement of the range top in a uniquely shaped work island. Hanging plants will flourish in the sunny nook, making it an attractive setting for meals, snacks and conversation. Access to a deck is through the family room.

Sleeping areas are upstairs. Amenities in the master suite include a 6-foot-wide window seat, a large walk-in closet and a private bath with oversized shower. To ease early morning traffic jams, the basin is in a separate dressing area outside of the water closet. The other two bedrooms share a bathroom with combined tub and shower.
