The first Scott M. Matheson Award has been presented to the Utah law firm of Van Cott, Bagley, Cornwall & McCarthy for its support of law-related programs in Utah schools.
The award was presented by the Utah Law-Related Education Committee, which administers the award, given in honor of the late Utah Gov. Matheson. He and his wife, Norma, were founding members of the law education program in the public schools. The Salt Lake firm has been involved in education efforts since the early 1970s, said Beth Whitsett, a lawyer with the group. A Van Cott lawyer, Robert D. Merrill, worked with the Utah Board of Education to make the programs available in Utah schools.
