A Salt Lake man has been charged with vehicular homicide in the death of a bicyclist Feb. 16.

Michael B. Potts, 45, no address available, was charged in 3rd Circuit Court Wednesday with the third-degree felony. A test indicated his blood alcohol level was .24 percent when the accident occurred, according to court records.Potts "was traveling at a speed too fast for the existing rainfall conditions, failed to adequately observe the bicyclist, and failed to adequately slow or brake at the time of the collision," the records said.

Walter R. Christensen, 21, was riding on Highland Drive near 3700 South about 11:15 p.m. when a Jeep Cherokee driven by Potts struck him from the rear.

Christensen was taken to University Hospital, where he later died of massive head and chest injuries.
