The College of Education at Brigham Young University has honored four faculty members for exceptional service, productivity and teaching.
The four 1991 faculty award winners are J. Lloyd Eldredge, scholarly productivity; Neil J. Flinders, excellence in teaching; R. Carl Harris, outstanding service; and Debra Stahle, excellence in teaching. After a career with the public schools and the Utah State Board of Education, Eldredge joined the department of elementary education at BYU in 1981.
A student wrote, "Dr. Flinders is the first and only teacher who from his research and teaching efforts has offered me a compass; a tool of direction and orientation that will allow me the understanding that I have so desperately needed to find my way in a clouded and confused world."
Harris helped develop and refine the concept of a partnership between the university and public schools and has been a leader in the BYU-Public School Partnership.
Stahle has received consistent exceptional ratings from her students. She helped develop a reading design lesson that helps instructors evaluate how well students can implement material presented during the semester.
