It wasn't expected, not even by the players doing the winning. But, Manti High rolled to an impressive win over Kanab Thursday in the finals of the 2A Boys' Baseball Championships.

The Templers, who went into the final showdown with an un-glittering 10-8 record, played what some thought was their best game of the year in rolling up the 3-0 victory over the Cowboys. Kanab went into the finals with a 12-4 record and was favored.First-year Manti Coach Brent Blackham said he thought it came down to pressure. Kanab, he said, was likely feeling the pressure of two consecutive years of losing in the finals and was expected to win. "We had nothing to loses," he said.

Manti pitcher Steve Olsen limited Kanab to only two hits, both by Hank Crosby. Olsen had four innings of no-hit baseball going when Crosby got his first hit.

Erik Olsen got the Templers started with a two-run single in the second, bringing in B.J. Burton and his younger brother, Steve.

The younger Olsen finished the year with a 7-1 record and a 1.50 ERA. Crosby pitched a good game in losing, giving up just four hits and striking out eight.
