Top police honors for 1990 have been handed to members of the West Valley City Police Department with the Officer of the Year award going to Sgt. Brooke Plotnick.

Plotnick, 32, has been with the department 10 years and has a number of responsibilities besides being the supervisor of the canine squad, where he works with his police service dog, Rambo.Plotnick is also a field training officer, training squad supervisor, reserve officer coordinator and member of the department's SWAT team.

Police work for the department's top officer for the year is not something that ends at the office: Plotnick's wife, Lisa, is a records clerk for the Sandy Police Department.

Certificates of Merit were also presented to Assistant Chief J. Stephen Shreeve, Detective Paul K. Jacobson, and officers Kelly Rushton, Jim Crowley and LaMonte Cox, who was also named the department's Shooter of the Year.

Lifesaving Awards were given to Detective Vince Garcia and officers Coy Acocks and Rebecca Crowley.

Medals of Honor were presented to officers Dan Call and William Froehlich.

Police Service Officer Dale Ann Wright was recognized as Citizen of the Year.
