A former convenience store clerk accused of stealing more than $3,000 and taking a rental car was arraigned Wednesday in 3rd Circuit Court.

Robert E. Lindsay, 28, is charged with two second-degree felonies in connection with an April 25 incident at a Taylorsville Phillips 66 station. Police first thought Lindsay was a kidnap and robbery victim when a fellow employee arrived at the station and found it locked and Lindsay gone.Two days later, Lindsay became a robbery suspect when his car was discovered at a Salt Lake car rental agency. He was returned to Utah Tuesday after waiving extradition in Arizona.

At the arraignment Wednesday, Lindsay was ordered to appear May 21 for a roll-call hearing at which time a preliminary hearing will be scheduled. Third Circuit Judge Dennis Fuchs also set a bond hearing for Thursday to determine whether Lindsay should be released to Pre-trial Services or required to post a $10,000 cash or property bond before being released.
