Gang members were responsible for at least eight drive-by shoot-ings during the past year. At least four people - all under 21 years old - were injured during the shoot-ings. Most of the drive-bys occurred in residential areas and involved more than one assailant.

May 9, 1991: A 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl were booked into detention after a gang-related shooting that injured an 18-year-old man near West High School.Oct. 16, 1990: An 18-year-old suffered a shotgun blast to his upper leg. He was sitting on the front porch of a home in a Kearns neighborhood when the shooting occurred.

July 30, 1990: A 16-year-old boy riding his bicycle on 300 East near 1800 South was shot once in the back. He underwent surgery before being released from the hospital.

June 9, 1990: A Salt Lake teenager was shot while walking on California Avenue near Redwood Road. He was treated for the wounds at a hospital and released.

June 7, 1990: Isileti Latu, 20, was shot in the back at a graduation party. A woman at the scene used CPR to keep the man alive before paramedics arrived.
