The chairman of a Sandy community council pleaded guilty Monday to a reduced charge in connection with the sexual abuse of a girl.

Samuel Burggraaf, 48, was originally charged with forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony, and was accused of fondling a girl in his Sandy home during June and July 1988.In a hearing Monday before 3rd District Judge Anne Stirba, Burggraaf pleaded guilty to a Class A misdemeanor charge of gross lewdness.

Burggraaf, who serves as chairman of the Sandy Quadrant Council, is expected to resign Tuesday.
