Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, has announced the appointment of three Salt Lake-area high school seniors to military academies.
Mark E. Neff, 18, a senior at Alta High School, and Jennifer Ann Rollins, 18, a senior at Brighton High School, have received appointments to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.Jacob D. Talbot, 18, a senior at Bingham High School, was nominated to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York.
Neff has a 3.85 grade-point average and is a member of the National Honor Society. He is listed in the 1989 and 1990 "Who's Who Among American High School Students" and has lettered in both football and wrestling at Alta. He is also an Eagle Scout, according to Hatch. Neff is the son of Edwin and Linda Neff of Sandy.
Rollins holds a 3.8 grade-point average and is also a member of the National Honor Society. She is a member of the Park West Ski Team and has been a United States Ski Association downhill racer since 1982. She competed in the 1989 and 1990 Junior Olympics for ski racing. She received the Girl Scout Gold Award in 1990 and the Girl Scout Silver Award in 1988. She is the daughter of Robert and Beverly Rollins of Salt Lake City.
Talbot is listed in the 1989 and 1990 "Who's Who Among American High School Students." He is also a PSAT/NMSQT Commended Scholar. He is the editor of the school newspaper and has served in various community activities. Talbot has also participated in Boys' State and Utah State University's Engineering State Entrepreneur Program. He is the son of Danny and Rebecca Talbot of South Jordan.
