To the editor:
On behalf of the Southern Utah Chapter of the March of Dimes, we would like to thank all of the walkers and volunteers who participated in WalkAmerica on April 27. Over $40,000 was raised to help the March of Dimes campaign for Healthier Babies prevent birth defects, low birth weight and infant death.Credit for the success of WalkAmerica/TeamWalk belongs entirely to the people of Provo, Orem, Spanish Fork and American Fork. Individuals, businesses, clubs and schools all rallied together, even in a snowstorm, to improve the health of future generations.
Once again, the USS Alioth Star Trek Club provided volunteers who faithfully registered participants and then later served lunch. We are especially indebted to the 500 walkers who participated.
The money raised will go to support the March of Dimes Campaign for Healthy Babies nationally and in Utah County. Local March of Dimes grants and programs include Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, $7,645; Utah Valley regional Medical Center, $4,328 - to educate teens in central, southeastern, southwestern Uintah Basin and Utah County about the responsibility associated with human reproduction; City/County Health Department of Utah County, $4,950 - to provide perinatal education to teens in Alpine School District who are pregnant.
