The Salt Lake County sheriff's office Monday was sweeping the canyons to prevent holiday campers and picnickers from starting another big fire.
"We're out there trying to educate the public about the orders regarding campfires," said sheriff's dispatcher Merv Quirin. "If people want to be stubborn about it, we'll issue them a citation."Quirin said several citations have already been issued this weekend in Butterfield and Big and Little Cottonwood canyons.
"The fire danger is great. People need to know that they can have fires only in approved pits. And you can't smoke unless you're on a paved area."
