Ruth Standing Packer, 3322 Starlite Drive, West Jordan, formerly of Tremonton, died Sunday, May 12, 1991 in the Jordan Valley Holy Cross Hospital of a stroke.
She was born August 27, 1904, in Fielding, a daughter of Leonard Wilford and Mary Emeretta Johnson Standing. She married Richard Leon Packer, September 4, 1928 in Ogden. The marriage was later solemnized September 5, 1957, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She attended Fielding Elementary School, and graduated from Bear River High School. She had lived in Ogden and moved back to Fielding in 1932. She moved to Tremonton in 1951 and to West Jordan in 1987. Mrs. Packer had cooked for thrashers and ranch hands and had worked as a clerk, cashier and bookkeeper. She was employed as Tremonton librarian, retiring at age 62. She was a member of the Bear River Valley Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary. She was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in the past as Primary organist, YWMIA teacher, member of the Relief Society and as a Visiting Teacher. She was Relief Society Historian for 12 years.Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Pauline and Spence A. Dewey, Orofino, Idaho; one son, Don Packer, West Jordan; one niece, who was reared as a daughter, and her husband, Barbara and Earl Winger, Bountiful; eight grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; one brother, Joseph Rulon Standing, Ogden. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Voneal Green Packer; two brothers, four sisters, Leonard, Barcley, Blanche, Irene, Mary, Myrtle.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 16, 12:30 p.m. Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 No. 100 East, Tremonton, with Bishop Robert F. Jex officiating. Friends may call Wednesday 6-8 p.m. and Thursday 10:45 to 12:15 at the Mortuary. Burial in the Fielding Cemetery.
