Work "beyond the ordinary efforts" in teaching, research and publication has netted awards for three Salt Lake university/college professors.
The awards were presented by the Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters during the academy's annual meeting last week.Yong-shi Wu, physics professor at the University of Utah, received the Willard Garner Prize in Science, the highest honor accorded by the academy. It is presented only every two years, alternating with the Charles Redd Prize in the Humanities.
Service awards went to Bernard Weiss, professor of Islamic studies at the U., and John S. McCormick, assistant professor of history, Salt Lake Community College.
All three were selected on the basis on exceptional work at the higher education level, said Richard Sadler, professor of history, Weber State University, and chairman of the academy awards committee.
