Juab County Commissioners on Monday created a Public Safety Building Authority.

The resolution, approved by the commission, creates the organization that will attempt to attract grants for the construction of a new county jail.County attorney Don Eyre Jr. and county engineer Randy Freston also asked the commission to appoint three trustees to the building authority.

"We are seeking a way to construct a new public safety building in our area," said Freston, adding that the building authority should be eligible to attract funding, oversee construction and then manage the facility once it is built.

Commission Chairman Richard Brough asked if the county commission could act as trustees on the building authority, but Freston said it might create problems with the in-lieu-of-tax monies the county collects and those funds might be jeopardized.
