The Juab County Commission has decided not to award a contract to replace the boiler at the county complex because the three bids each exceeded the architect's estimate by at least $45,000.

The lowest bid on the project, $75,433, was submitted by Paul Healey. The high bid on the replacement was $134,477.Representing project architects Dell S. Ashworth and Associates of Provo, Homer Horton said he could not explain why contractors' bids were so much above the estimated project cost of $25,000 to $30,000.

Commissioners were hoping to replace the antiquated coal-fired boiler with a gas one - either propane or natural gas.
