Bill Blanchette pitched his 13th win against no losses and Todd Takayoshi drove in three runs as Hawaii shutout Utah 5-0 Friday night, opening a four-game Western Athletic Conference series.

Blanchette struck out 10 and gave up seven hits in going the distance, his seventh complete game of the season.In the bottom of the first inning, Takayoshi homered over center field, driving in Blanchette from first.

Hawaii, 43-14 (19-5 in the WAC), and Utah, 23-27 (11-9 in the WAC), were scheduled to meet in a doubleheader Saturday and in a single game on Sunday.

Hawaii needs one more victory to win the WAC regular season title.
