In a marathon match Saturday night, the University of Utah lost the first game of the WAC women's softball tournament finals to Creigthon, 1-0. The game ended in the 31st inning after more than six hours of play.
Janet Womack lasted the distance for Utah, pitching 31 innings. Womack also pitched in games Thursday and Friday, notching a total of 44 straight scoreless innings. Womack never gave up an earned run.Creighton advanced to the final after defeating New Mexico 1-0 Saturday.
Creighton's Lorrie McGill scored the game's only run after having reached first base on an error, stealing second and advancing to third after Utah was called for a balk. She reached home on Tracy Rice's sacrifice fly to right field.
Utah finished with 25 total hits. Ute Charmelle Green had seven hits, tying the NCAA record for most hits in a game.
The winner of the second game, which began at 12:35 a.m., was to advance to the regional final.
