Sarod player Aashish Khan will perform at 8 this evening in the auditorium of the Museum of Fine Arts on the University of Utah campus.
The son of Ali Akbar Khan, for many years the concert and recording partner of Ravi Shankar, Khan has created music for the films "Gandhi," "The Man Who Would Be King" and "A Passage to India," among others. He has also composed for the Philadelphia String Quartet and worked with such performers as George Harrison, Ringo Starr and Eric Clapton.His appearance is sponsored by the Associated Students of the University of Utah, Eastern Arts, the Salt Lake City Arts Council, the Salt Lake Ethnic Arts Council, the Utah Humanities Council and the India Forum. Admission is free.
Khan will also perform with his Shaanti creative music ensemble at next weekend's U. Mayfest, Friday, May 17, at 3 p.m. on the Union Building Plaza.
